Wendy Smith
Wendy Smith has decades of experience as a public school teacher and nonprofit volunteer. Born and raised in Cambridge, Ohio, her family valued education and encouraged Wendy and her siblings to pursue their passions. She obtained a Bachelor of Music from the College of Wooster, a Master of Music from the University of Texas in Austin, and a Master of Education from Cabrini College. Wendy moved to York and began teaching 1992. After working in a private school for special education, she was hired by the Red Lion Area School District. There she served for three decades - first as a substitute teacher, then a gifted education and language arts teacher. She knows what impact our teaching professionals make in the classroom, and understands the challenges they face. Wendy Smith has been active in a variety of continuing education opportunities, including working with the Penn State Holocaust and Genocide Institute, as well as courses on Teaching Difficult Topics and Trauma Informed Practices. This gave her the skill set to help her students draw their own conclusions on difficult issues and eliminate roadblocks to learning in the classroom. Wendy has long been active in various organizations in the York area. Her volunteer efforts include serving on the board of the York County Community Against Racism, coaching for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Wendy and her husband hosted multiple exchange students over the years. She is a passionate advocate for education and a champion of the arts in our community. Back to the other candidates! |
